Covered patio in grey pavers
A covered patio in long grey pavers laid with offset joints, each row shifted against the last like a brick wall laid flat.
The job
The pavers run the length of the patio with narrow joints close to the stone colour. The face is matt.
The offset
Half offset is the usual. On pavers over 60 cm we prefer a third, because any slight bow in a long piece shows less. We set out square to the house.
Finish
Even under cover, flamed, brushed or honed grips better than polished, and furniture marks it less.
Base
A screed with about 1.5% fall away from the house, and a movement joint every 20 to 25 m². Without them, pavers can lift after a hot summer.
Choosing
Take a sample home and wet it. Grey stone goes darker, porcelain barely changes. Look at it in the rain and in full sun before you decide.

Which finish for a covered patio?
Matt or brushed. Better grip when damp and fewer visible scratches.
Do patios need movement joints?
Yes, about every 20 to 25 m² and along the walls.
Can new pavers go over old tiles?
Sometimes, if the old tiles are sound, flat and well stuck. We check on site.
