Marble tables in Metz
For Metz we mostly make marble, travertine and onyx tables and stone tops, often chosen to sit well with the yellow Jaumont stone of the city. The workshop is about 235 km away, around 2 h 20.
Colour
Most of the old centre is built in Jaumont, an ochre limestone that goes golden with age. In that warm light a cold white marble can look bluish, so owners in Metz often go for warmer stone.
- Beige or walnut travertine, filled for a table top.
- Egyptian Galala, an even cream limestone.
- Honey onyx, beautiful lit from behind but fragile, for a decorative piece rather than a family table.
- Light Emperador, brown veins on caramel.
Tables
A fitted worktop means two trips to Metz, one to measure and one to fit, while a table can be made without either. We make it from a drawing with sizes and photos of the room, then deliver and set it up in one visit. That's what makes sense at this distance.
Weight
A 120 cm round top in 2 cm marble weighs about 61 kg, in 3 cm about 92 kg. The base has to be wide enough that an elbow on the edge can't tip it. On your own base we fix the top with threaded inserts glued into the stone. See marble tables.
Marks
Wine and lemon leave dull marks on marble. Honed shows them far less, so most dining tables go out honed. With children and dinner parties, granite or Dekton avoids the question.
Stairs
The tall ceilings of the Imperial Quarter take a 2.40 m table easily. The stairwell is another matter, four people carry it flat and turn on each landing. Measure the stairs before choosing the size.
