Breccia marble pedestal basin
A pedestal basin carved from one block of beige breccia marble. There's no bowl glued on, the basin is hollowed out of the solid stone.
The piece
A square top with a chamfered underside, on a base that narrows in the middle like an hourglass. The bowl is cut into the top and shows the same pattern of broken fragments inside as out. The tap sits on the top behind the bowl.
The stone
Breccia is rock that broke into sharp pieces and set again. Every face of the block is different, which you can see on all four sides of this one.
Carving
The bowl is milled on the CNC or roughed out with the saw and ground. We give the bottom a slight fall to the waste, otherwise water sits and leaves a ring. Then it's polished grit by grit. The base takes the longest.
Upkeep
Whitening toothpaste, vinegar and descaler all mark marble. Rinse after use and reseal once or twice a year.
Delivery
It's well over 100 kg, so we check doors and corridors first and bring it in on a stair trolley.

Frequently asked questions
Another question? Call the workshop: 07 45 20 76 39
Where does the plumbing go?
The base is hollow, so the trap and pipes run down to the floor or back to the wall.
Is breccia more fragile than plain marble?
The bound areas can be softer. We reject blocks with cracks at the workshop.
Can I choose the block?
Yes, if we have it in stock. We check when we quote.
