Floors and large format
We check the floor with a 2 m straightedge and level it if it dips more than 5 mm. Tiles go down with flexible C2 adhesive spread on floor and tile, with levelling clips. Pale marble goes on white adhesive so no grey shows through. A 60 × 120 in 10 mm weighs about 17 kg, so check stairs and doorways. See large format porcelain.
Showers and terraces
In a walk-in shower a waterproofing membrane goes down first, with epoxy grout. Outside, the tile must be frost resistant and laid with a 1 to 2% fall, or on pedestals on a flat roof.

What adhesive for 60x120 tiles?
A flexible C2 adhesive spread on both the floor and the back of the tile.
Can you tile over old tiles?
Yes if they are sound, flat and firmly stuck, never on a springy timber floor.
