Engineered quartz
The quartz we fit in kitchens is a factory-made slab, about 90% quartz grains held in resin. It hardly stains at all. It can't take a very hot dish or full sun, though.

What we make
Kitchen worktops, islands, splashbacks, vanity tops and shower trays. People like it for a pure white or a plain grey, or for a marble look without the upkeep. Slabs are about 306 × 140 cm, or 320 × 160 cm for jumbo, at 1.2, 2 and 3 cm.
Heat
This is its real limit. The resin doesn't cope well above roughly 150 to 180°C, and a dish straight from the oven put down on it can leave a white mark or crack the slab. We tell every customer, and we know it still happens when there's a crowd round the table, so keep a trivet next to the hob.
Sunlight
The resin yellows in direct sun. We don't fit it outdoors, in a south-facing conservatory, or next to an open fire. For those, we'd point you to Dekton or granite.
Cutting at the workshop
We cut it wet with a diamond blade or with a waterjet. Dry-cutting quartz gives off silica dust that is dangerous for whoever does the cutting, hence the water and extraction at our end. Once it's fitted in your kitchen there's no such risk. Joints between two slabs are bonded with coloured resin. On plain white they're discreet, on a veined pattern they show more.
Thickness
2 cm on continuous units. 3 cm for an island with an overhang or a large sink opening.
Care
Water and mild soap. No oven cleaner, no neat bleach, no scouring pads, they attack the resin. No sealer needed.
A quartz offcut is sometimes enough for a vanity top, see the clearance page. For a quote, call 07 45 20 76 39.
Frequently asked questions
Another question? Call the workshop: 07 45 20 76 39
Can I put a hot pan on quartz?
No. The resin marks or cracks above about 150 to 180°C, so keep a trivet handy.
Are quartz and quartzite the same?
No. Quartz is a factory slab made with resin. Quartzite is a natural rock from a quarry.
Does quartz go yellow?
In direct sun the resin can yellow over time. Indoors, out of the sun, it's not a common problem.
